The Glory of Laury (sorry!)

Here are a few snaps from Applique Stitchery (1966). The simplicity of the shapes combined with the bold colour are what do it for me. And the directness of her applique stitch, which is a very visible running stitch taken along the edges of her shapes, is refreshing.

How could I not be inspired?

Very cool! Her shapes remind me of "The New Crewel" by Katherine Shaughnessy. I also love her color sense. Makes me feel creative just to look at it.

Slurp! I want to lick my computer screen. This is some of the most delicious applique I've ever seen in my long quilting life. From decades ago, yet so refreshing and inspiring after my many years subjected to the traditional, country decor applique design still popular in Waterloo County. I've always wanted to applique and now I KNOW I have it in me! Thanks for the inspiration! I'm going to rethink selling those hand dyeds cheaply on eBay . . .
